AI Literacy: Join the Latest Cohort
Beginning this July, Ithaka S+R will convene a cohort of 15-20 colleges and universities to explore how existing information literacy frameworks can be adapted and revised to reflect the changing realities of an AI-driven information ecosystem. The project will bring together librarians, teaching and learning professionals, and other campus leaders committed to advancing AI literacy as a core learning outcome.
Working collaboratively with Ithaka S+R and one another, participants will examine the changing information practices, expectations, and needs of students and instructors. Through a combination of virtual workshops, qualitative data collection, and collaborative design activities, institutions will identify opportunities to integrate AI literacy into existing programs and services that center information literacy, digital literacy, and metaliteracy.
During the project, participants will engage students and instructors through focus groups or interviews to better understand how generative AI is reshaping teaching, learning, research, and information-seeking behaviors on their campuses. Drawing on those findings, cohort members will collaborate to develop practical approaches for supporting AI literacy through libraries, centers for teaching and learning, and other university units.
Throughout the project, Ithaka S+R will provide instruments, training, facilitation, and consultation, while sharing insights from our previous AI literacy cohorts and highlighting emerging themes across participating institutions.
Call for participation
As AI continues to reshape the information landscape, colleges and universities have an opportunity—and responsibility—to ensure that students develop the critical skills necessary to evaluate, interpret, and engage with information in AI-rich environments. We look forward to working with a new cohort of institutions to explore how information literacy frameworks can evolve to meet this moment.
