Leading Innovation: A Seminar for Department Chairs

The Academy for Innovative Higher Education Leadership and Ithaka S+R are now accepting applications for “Leading Innovation,” a two-day seminar we have designed to foster the leadership skills of department chairs.
Department chairs play a critical role in their institutions, helping to make important hiring and budget decisions and increasingly playing a crucial role in innovations around teaching, learning, and technology. Yet, while the department chair is typically the first rung on the ladder to senior leadership in academia, many take on the role without the necessary training or mentorship.
The Academy for Innovative Higher Education Leadership and Ithaka S+R have developed this seminar for department chairs to help fill that preparation gap.
During the two-day seminar in Washington DC, participants will interact with experts in higher education policy and management, engage in small group discussion, and take part in a facilitated workshop focused on their own initiatives.
Through these experiences, the seminar will help chairs understand emerging higher education policies and practices, develop practical leadership skills, and begin to apply that learning to manage change on their campuses and within their departments.
We welcome applications from teams of chairs from one institution, but request that each chair completes a separate application form.

Seminar dates: June 4-5, 2018

Fees: $975. The fees include breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Monday and Tuesday. Participants are responsible for their accommodation and travel costs. We have reserved a block of hotel rooms and will provide additional information upon acceptance to the seminar.
