Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Academic Libraries: An ALA Open Session
- Libraries & Scholarly Communication
- Past Event
- June 26, 2016
- Roger C. Schonfeld, Liam Sweeney, Kimberly D. Lutz
Join Ithaka S+R on Sunday, June 26, from 3-4:00 pm, at ALA in Orlando and contribute your ideas to our latest research project.
We have recently embarked on a study, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, to map staff diversity within academic libraries. Building on similar studies we have conducted in American art museums and cultural organizations within New York City, we hope to develop a clear snapshot of staff demographics across all job types within college and university libraries. Through a survey distributed to libraries at all US 4-year + institutions, we will also study policy and perceptions about issues of equity, inclusiveness, and diversity from the perspective of library directors.
We hope that this project will provide additional evidence to help leaders prioritize issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and to guide their interventions and our broader community strategy to address inequities that remain present in our organizations. We will be grateful for your input and invite you to join us in Orlando to share your ideas.
Location: Rosen Centre Hotel, Signature 2 Room, Orlando, Florida
